This morning I finally got a chance to try running again.
I had decided to rest my knee and the past few weeks have seen various levels of difficulty and soreness.
After giving it 30 days of relative ease (no running since the Victory Run), I got up dark and early this morning for a test trot.
I took a little lap around Pico and then towards Santa Monica Airport. Nothing too spectacular or fast; but, I made it. A little sore.
The speed was not very high; the senior pace leader for my LA Roadrunners group had said restart slowly (in fact this pace was probably quicker than suggested!). Plus, I was not sure what to expect and felt better having some success than risking disaster.
The big thing was starting again. Now, to see what tomorrow brings ...
31:09 of running
12:04 pace (slow :-( )
2.58 miles

A Wobble and It's Not Even Thanksgiving
I have run the last two days for the Roadrunners program, opting to take Tuesday as a day off from running. It has been a bit challenging.
Sunday I got up dark and early as usual and just felt listless. I still set out and six minutes in the electronic conscience that is the Garmin 305, started giving a low battery warning and soon upped and quit. So, I was back to the Stone Age of using a wristwatch. My knee was also acting up a bit and there was still some soreness from the almost 13 miler. I still managed to do the assigned 30 minutes; but, it felt more like a survival run than a thrive run.
Monday was a bit better, though my knee was acting up again. I ran up and down the Pico Neighborhood for 3.26 miles in 40:04, a tad slow at 12:18 pace. Still, I was going and with some better luck at traffic lights, I think I could have had a better time.
So, it has been a tad challenging and frustrating the last two days to not be doing and feeling better; but, a marathon is indeed a marathon and not a sprint. I still hope and plan to finish the Los Angeles Marathon on March 21, just may be hoping for a few less days like these.

Running in the Rain
Running in the rain, just running in the rain ... what a glorious feeling ...
This morning was the fun I had been anticipating ... running in the rain. It seems this is the largest October storm to hit Southern California in 45 years; so, I did the obvious ... I ran!
It was 45 minutes of running up and down the Pico Neighborhood with some little hills to boot. There were some massive ponds, er puddles, to cross/wade through along the way in the dark.
Still, it was so much fun. I was not completely inundated; but, I was definitely damp afterwards.
It was quite a different bit of marathon training; but, it all counts (I hope). Still, somehow this running through water did not quite match up to the opening of Chariots of Fire with the nice beach!
